Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is not used during the first 15 weeks of pregnancy at Cambridge Massage Therapy as we find that reflexology and Bach Flower treatments are more suitable to the needs of the pregnant woman.

Massage Therapy

From 16 weeks of pregnancy, Massage Therapy is a great way to relax and pamper yourself. After discussing your health and pregnancy history and identifying your session objectives, your therapist will leave the room to allow you to change. You will recieve your massage lying on your side propped up by pillows covered in large spa towels or seated if preferred. Your comfort is important. Pressure is monitored and all areas worked on are deemed as safe to be worked on during pregnancy.

Areas that can be massaged include back, shoulders, neck, head, arms, hands, legs, feet, and of course the growing tummy.

Massage may help with:

  • Sciatica
  • Back pain
  • Shoulder and neck pain
  • Stress levels
  • Improving sleep patterns
  • Headaches

Please note that if you have an infection, cold, flu, high blood pressure or oedema you should not have a massage. Acupuncture and homeopathy may be better therapies for you. Please discuss these conditions with your Lead Maternity Caregiver, midwife and therapist before booking your appointment.

 Massage Therapy

The postnatal massage is a wonderful way to recover and recuperate after birthing. The physical demands of carrying a baby, combined with the demands of birthing or caesarian sections can be a challenge in itself. All women need extra TLC during this time.  Time to heal, to talk things through and to have time for her self. We allow time for this appointment so that baby can come too. Mum is given time to settle and feed baby so she can relax as much as possible. The session can be a back and shoulder massage or a full body massage. Each session is personalised for each clients needs

Note: It is important to note that if you have mastitis or engorgement etc the use of Reflexology is recomended instead of massage therapy until it has cleared.
